taste test: nix&kix

Recently, NIX&KIX sent me 3 bottles of their Cayenne infused, naturally sweetened drinks to try. I was so excited to try these drinks, as I never really drink any flavoured drinks due to their high content of sugars and other artificial ingredients. So, I was really looking forward to thought of being able to enjoy something other than water or herbal tea during my day. Even though I love drinking both of water and tea, you do sometimes want to drink something else!

nix & kix cayenne drinks

The range of drinks includes 3 flavours; Peach and Vanilla, Mango and Ginger, and Cucumber and Mint. Each drink is infused with Cayenne pepper, not only to enhance it’s flavour, but also to add an extra health kick. Cayenne pepper contains capsaicin, which is known to boost your metabolism – and you can read more about it here. The drinks contain no fizz, artificial ingredients or refined sugars. So when you drink these, you get to enjoy something that tastes like a sweet treat, but is actually good for you!

peach and vanilla

I think this flavour is my favourite out of the three. Growing up, I was obsessed with peach iced tea, and would always have some at hand. I haven’t actually had iced tea in years, but drinking this instantly reminded of how much I love the fruity flavour of peaches. The combination of peach and vanilla creates a really smooth blend of flavours, and a good level of natural sweetness – perfect for those of you with a sweet tooth like me. Then, just after the sweetness hits, your palette gets a cleanse from the subtle heat of cayenne, which also adds a nice warm feeling to the drink. I could happily sip on this all day!

I love the combination of mango and ginger. Ginger itself adds such a nice warmth and flavour to things, and I am always adding it into my recipes. Out of all of the Nix&Kix drinks, this flavour has the strongest amount of heat. The blend of ginger and cayenne makes this so warming and delicious, and the mango complements the heat perfectly with it’s natural sweetness. The cayenne really enhances the flavour of ginger in the drink, and creates that lovely comforting feeling that ginger always has.

Lastly, this flavour really reminds me of a refreshing mojito. The cooling flavours of mint and cucumber are also combined with lime to create the classic taste of one of my favourite cocktails. The heat from the cayenne adds an amazing twist to the drink, creating a delicious balance between cooling cucumber, and warming chilli. You can really taste each of the individual ingredients in this drink, making it a delicious drink that’s bursting with an array of bold flavours.

  1. I will have to give these a try! I am always looking out for new drinks to try that aren’t packed full of sugar. Usually I just have water, but that does get boring sometimes.

    1. Definitely! I hope you like them 🙂

  2. O the pear vanilla sounds the best!! Anything pear 😉
But I’m like you, I never drink “drinks” besides water, black coffee and tea! I don’t “drink my calories or sugar!”

    1. Hi Rebecca, unfortunately we only have peach but pear sounds like a great idea. Watch the space.

  3. Now I want to try it 😛

  4. I’ve never heard of NixKix, but I am digging that they add cayenne to their drinks! I love cayenne for it’s taste and spice, but I won’t lie, part of me loves it because it is so close to my name (and it was my nickname among a few in culinary school). The peach and vanilla flavor would probably be my favorite too! I’m going to have to check this drink out! Thanks for sharing, lovely! Cheers to a fabulous weekend! xo

    1. Hi Cheyanne, what an amazing name. Have to admit that I am a little bit jealous!!
Ping me a message if you are interested in trying.

  5. I like the sound of all three of those drinks. I bet they’d make a great cocktail!

    1. They are incredible cocktail ingredients. Top the peach with sparkling wine and you get an awesome bellini with a Twist. The Mango is awesome with dark Caribbean rum. And the Cucumber pears well with Gin or Vodka.
      Cheers ????

  7. These drinks each sounds really yummy! I love how they are infused with cayenne pepper — that’s so cool! Have a nice weekend 🙂
