Recently, my lovely godmother rescued a beautiful pig named Gloria. Only weeks away from being sent to unnecessary slaughter, my godmother did everything she possibly could to save Gloria’s life. Rescuing this beautiful pig, she travelled hours to transport her to a new, happy home at Farm Animal Sanctuary, Evesham. Here, Gloria would be able to live the long, joyous life she deserved. However, Gloria’s story is an incredibly lucky one. Humans can be incredibly cruel to animals, and every year over 150 billion of them are sent for slaughter through various trades and practices. Thankfully, Gloria won’t be one of them.
Today, we can easily, unknowingly cause harm to the planet. Many of us lead such busy lives that we are left with little time to consider and contemplate our human actions. Everything we do leaves a mark on the earth, and with some of the smallest decisions, we can make a positive change. With a rise in awareness of the planets current situation, I think it’s so important that we begin to care more for the earth and all of it’s inhabitants, no matter who or how. There are so many things we can do to help, and one of my all time favourite quotes is by Mother Teresa:
“Not all of us can do great things. But we can do small things with great love.”
My godmother did an incredibly great thing to save this pig’s life, creating a huge and positive impact of change, not only inspiring me but many of the people around her. Please be inspired, and remember that we can all do something to help others, no matter how big or small the deed. Any positive change is an incredible decision. Any act of good is improving your current position and the others around you, no matter how significant it feels. But know that you do not need to make any drastic changes in your life to make the world a better place, because if all of us switched just one thing in our lives for the better, or helped someone, no matter what it was, it would equal over 7 billion changes. The little things always add up, and in todays age anything is possible, we are all so connected and able to help one another.
Please though, never feel like you have to make a sacrifice to help the planet. There are so many amazing things we can do to help it, no matter what or how many of them you do.
Here are a few links I like to read and inspire me to help focus on this:
So, whether you’re planting a tree in the garden, buying food more locally, adopting/rescuing a pet or choosing a re-usable bag over a plastic one, feel good that you’re creating a positive change in the world.
There was an image I saw on a Vive Soy carton a few years ago that completely changed my outlook on life. The message on it read:
“If everyone in Europe switched to a plant-based diet for one day a week, it would be equivalent to taking 13.7 million cars off the road in the EU.”
This is the image that inspired me in so many ways, I took a photo of it on that day and have had it saved on my phone since. Reading it just once changed so many things in my life, and was even one of the inspirations that lead me to creating this blog. So trust me, any small change is significant.
I hope this post has inspired you to take any action you can to make a positive imprint on the planet. No matter what you choose, know that you are doing something amazing, and feel good about your choice. One thing I hope you take from this post, is that you take more time to think and contemplate your time on Earth. May you have a positive, amazing journey, and appreciate just how incredible being alive is.
Today, Gloria is enjoying her beautiful, safe, home in Evesham with a newfound friend called Colin! She was certainly blessed, and it’s all thanks to people like my Godmother, and those involved with the farm that do all that they can to help these wonderful animals. Hopefully, this post has raised some awareness of the situation that many animals currently face. I’d love to do something to help, and finding about Gloria inspired me to create some artwork.
I’ve created two illustrations (one of Colin) and a painting of Gloria to show you how beautiful they both are. I’d love to do something with the artwork to help the Farm – and will keep you posted with my plans.
I hope you all enjoy an amazing, fulfilling day and enjoy the artwork!
