illustration: cupcakes

I’ve actually had a few suggestions from people recently to create someΒ food illustrations. Strangely, I’m not sure why I hadn’t thought of doing this myself before. Spending most days cooking and creating recipes, it would make sense for me to enjoy drawing food as much as eating it! However, I’ve never really drawn any food before. So, due to my requests, I finally decided it was time for me to begin some food illustration.

For my first illustrations, I decided to go for a food that everyone loves – cupcakes! They’re always so beautiful, well decorated, and I knew they would make something fun and exciting to draw.

….Although, I did end up spending quite a lot of time searching for my drawingΒ inspiration, as there are just sooo many beautiful images of cupcakes everywhere that I got a bit lost amongst all of the mouthwatering photographs.

Eventually, I found my cupcakes and got illustrating. I really enjoyed creating them, and definitely think I’ll be doing more food illustration from now on. Here are the results below – I hope you like them!

    1. Thank you sooo much Gayle! I have a few canvases hanging up, and one photography print – the collection is growing though, I’m worried I’ll end up crowding the walls with artwork haha!!!

  1. Harriet, I don’t say this often since I’m an artist myself and have my own artwork ALL over my house, but I LOVE your stuff. I’m so not just saying that either…I would totally buy these cupcake drawings from you! You need to sell these! Get them in print and sell them. I seriously want these cupcake ones! Are they all just as individuals or do you really have one with a group of the four? That is the one I love the most…of the group. I totally want that to hang in my house! I LOVE cupcakes…it’s my favorite classic dessert, so I’m especially drawn to them. Beautiful!

I just realized I never emailed you my artwork either…gosh I am the most forgetful person in the world!

    1. Oh my gosh Brandi!! That’s sooo kind of you – thank you so much!! I really do want to sell my prints, and I’m trying to get it organised at the moment. I just really want to get them done right – and in the most sustainable/eco friendly way I can! I looove cupcakes too – they’re always so cute and fun to decorate!! Oh yeah!! Please email some to me, I really want to see your art!!! I use a mixture of watercolour paints and watercolour pens πŸ™‚

  2. OMGosh Harriet Emily – I am **totally** digging these! What medium did you do them in? My mom is an artist and as far as traditional ‘art’ goes, I have zero talent. I can cook and write, but the real artwork fails me. And yours are amazing. I am super loving these posts, so I hope it’s not the last of your illustrated food series. You’ve given us a taste, and now we want it all the time! xoxo Pinned because everyone will love it!

    1. Thank you soooo much Kristi!! I’m so glad you like them πŸ™‚ I use watercolour paints and pens! I definitely consider cooking and writing to be art too – and you’re really amazing and talented at both! Thank you again! I’m definitely going to start doing more of them πŸ™‚ xxx

  3. These are gorgeous Harriet! I’m also a foodblogger and artist and I hadn’t seen anyone else with the same combo until now. Yay!

I actually directly draw art doodles on top of my food photography instead of separating them, but this is really nice – I could definitely see it hanging in some cute bakery πŸ™‚
