I’m really fascinated by all types of symbolism, but definitely animal symbolism in particular. Where I live, I’m fortunate enough to be surrounded by lots of beautiful wildlife and see several different species of wild animals every day. Some days, there are specific animals I see repeatedly, but on other days there can be a species I’ve never even seen before. There’s definitely something magical about having an untamed, wild animal appear in front of you. Whenever I see one during my day, I’m always eager to find out whether there could possibly be a meaning behind my sighting. And, by doing this I’ve gradually evolved into having a real interest for animal symbolism.

On the days when I see a particular species more than once, I’m often intrigued as to wonder, why? Is it simply a mere coincidence, or is there something more behind it? Of course, anything you see, or anything that happens in your life could be down to a ‘coincidence’. But in my opinion, I like to think there’s something more behind it all. With animals in particular, I can’t help but feel a deeper connection to the earth when I see one. Whether it’s a deer, kingfisher, or crow, there are certainly specific animals that I come across at different points in my life and appear in front of me more often.

Animal symbolism is something that has been used as a tool for guidance and re-assurance in peoples lives for many, many years now, and is an ancient tradition. It can pin point areas needing greater care in your life, or even help to tell you more about yourself. With something as complex as this, it may seem extremely difficult to determine the symbolism of an animal, but thanks to todays internet, there are an infinite amount resources at hand, so that you can discover a specific meaning of an animal that resonates the most with you.

There are a few different species on the planet that I feel the most connected to. However, it is the Crow that stands out particularly for me. Where I live, I am closely surrounded by hundreds of the birds, and see at least 10 of them every day. They are such beautiful creatures, and hold many interpretations. In some traditions, they have been symbolised to represent a bad omen, death or dark magic. And, because of this they can hold a negative connotation, filled with sadness and fear.

However, there many positive symbols behind them too. Due to their association with magic, they have been known to represent the miracles of life and our personal destiny. In fact, they signify many things, such as intelligence, higher perspective and fearlessness. I find that the power, magic and fearlessness of the bird is something that resonates with me the most. Every time I see one, I realise all of the possibilities that life has to offer. They remind me of the importance of living fearlessly and taking risks, trusting in my self and the magic of the unknown. Risk taking is always worthwhile, as none of us know what our fate or our future has to offer. Things will always work out in the end, no matter how or what way they unfold.
